County Seat: La Junta.
We are now in Otero County, the city of La Junta, Colorado. Our precious contact from last evening in Bent County gave us contacts here, and we will see them both today! God You are so amazing!
As we head to our destinations here, we are thoroughly enjoying the sights of this town. There were many historical places along the road and through town, and my camera is snapping like crazy! We saw many trains and one little red caboose. We will also be sure to get a good picture of The Lighthouse, a bible bookstore in town. We understand this to be the only independently owned Bible bookstore left in the state of Colorado! I took some pictures of the inside of the store, but the best part was the owner- Ginny Langergren, a precious woman of God! We were able to pray with her and have communion together. We prayed over her bookstore and Otero County with her and her friend that came to help her with the store. After sweet fellowship with these two ladies, we made our way to the church just down the road.
We arrived at Calvary La Junta to meet Pastor Scott Johnson. Pastor Scott was so kind to show us all through the church. Oh, my goodness, the stained-glass windows were stunning. One was the city of Jerusalem. That was my favorite. We loved walking through this amazing place with Pastor Scott. There’s one picture I really loved. It says, “I still believe in Amazing Grace, that there’s Power in the Blood, that He walks with me and He talks with me, that because He lives, I can face tomorrow, all because of The Old Rugged Cross.” At the end of this time with this precious man, we sang every one of those songs on that picture as our worship together! He had a Colorado flag made of wood, hanging proudly in his church. There was an old, old piano that has no doubt had many hundreds of hymns sung to God from its keys.
It’s such a beautiful church; everywhere You look you can almost hear the past. The beautiful old wooden church pews reminded me of when I was a kid. My job was to “dust”.
Mom and Dad helped clean the church every week. They wanted to give me something “important” to do, at about 7-8 years old, so I was assigned the job of “dusting”. I would sit on the old church pews and slide all the way across them, and that was “dusting” to me! I thought it was so much fun, and a sweet memory. I can still hear the old church hymns being sung, and remember using the old hymnals. Some beauty you just don’t forget. It kind of soaks into you- and stays.
The stained glass windows, as I mentioned earlier, were just absolutely breathtaking. Here I am at my favorite. All I could do was just worship there for a long time. I will add the pictures here and you can just soak awhile. It was like reaching out and touching Jerusalem. It was so beautiful.
When we went outside for communion and to put our prayer offerings into the ground, we prayed over Otero County. Since marijuana has been made legal in our state, it’s becoming more of a problem. There are stores everywhere and in all the towns around us, and people are a little bit hardened to it. He and Tony talked, encouraged each other and prayed together in a sweet time of agreement for REVIVAL! Lord, You were ready to start all over with Moses, but he stood in the gap for the people. We will stand in the gap for our families, neighborhood, cities and our country. We pray that they would choose You as Lord!
We pray for MORE INTERCESSORS to stand in the gap. Pastor Scott prayed that God would help us grow faith, and like the mustard seeds, faith would spread across our state and nation like wildfire. Lord, let us be like those mustard trees growing big with many branches, sprouting and multiplying. By faith we have thrown out and buried mustard seeds. Water them, Lord; grow faith in our hearts and the heart of other pastors in the area. We praise and thank God through communion, and we remember the new covenant made with Your body and blood.
I love the feeling of the cool dirt on my hands; as I hold it, it’s one more county taken and dedicated again for Your glory. Re-align us with You; Let us make disciples and know we are making a difference for Your Kingdom when we follow Your leading! Cleanse our land of evil and fill it with lovers of You. You said to Joshua that where the sole of his foot trod, You would give him the land. We want dirty feet! Cleanse our land, Lord, and bring in the harvest! We want America!
We prayed for the pastor when we were worshiping. We prayed for strength as he leads his flock, and to stand strong. Thank You for the difference he is making in La Junta! Bless him; fill him with Your power and Your Shalom peace that shatters all chaos. We pray Your power, wisdom and direction over Pastor Scott and Calvary Church. Let the day come quickly that the enemy is sorry he ever came against Your people! Then, out came the guitar and our shofars, and we sealed our time together with worship praise!
This has been such a precious time of fellowship, prayer and worship. Thank You so much that You allowed us to come here. Bless this place Oh God, and as their vision states, make Jesus Christ non-ignorable in La Junta and to the ends of the earth! Thank you for the beauty of this town, and let it be a true lighthouse for You! And Lord when they look at this little caboose, let them be reminded that YOU are the only way home.
